Oktoberfest Festival Brings Bavarian Flavours to Hamilton

Eat Street Northshore is hosting its inaugural Oktoberfest in Hamilton with Bavarian food, German beer, live entertainment, and themed competitions across two weekends.

Oktoberfest Comes to Hamilton

Eat Street Northshore will present its first Oktoberfest celebration across two consecutive weekends, from Friday, 26 September to Sunday, 28 September and Friday, 3 October to Sunday, 5 October. The festival will run from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Sundays.

The event is described as a major addition to the entertainment calendar at Eat Street Northshore, which is already recognised as one of Brisbane’s most popular food and leisure destinations.

Bavarian Food and German Beer

Visitors will be able to enjoy a wide selection of German beer, including specialty Oktoberfest brews served in traditional steins. The food line-up will feature Bavarian classics such as pork knuckle and sauerkraut, German-style potatoes, sausage lollipops, and sausage pizza.

These offerings aim to bring an authentic Oktoberfest atmosphere to Brisbane while also incorporating Eat Street’s unique approach to street food.

Four Stages of Live Music

Entertainment will take place across four stages with a variety of performers. Acts include Route 33, DJ Jonny Drama, Whistle Dixie Band, Alpenrosen Bell Players, and The Oompaholics. This mix of local and themed performers will combine traditional German music with modern genres to create a diverse program.

Entry Information

Guests can take part in Oktoberfest-themed competitions such as pretzel throwing and the Best Dressed Dachshund contest. The dachshund competition has a dedicated registration link, allowing owners to enter their pets in advance.

Admission to the event costs $6, with free entry for children under 13. The venue is Eat Street Northshore on Macarthur Avenue in Hamilton.

Brisbane is gearing up for one of the city’s biggest sporting weekends, with locals expected to pack into Howard Smith Wharves to cheer on the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Grand Final and the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL double header.

On Saturday, 27 September, the AFL Grand Final will be shown live from 2:30 p.m. across multiple venues at Howard Smith Wharves, including Felons Barrel Hall, Felons Fish & Chipper Lawn, the Rivergarden, and Felons Beer Garden. The Lions, who secured their spot after a strong season, are chasing back-to-back premiership glory.

The celebrations continue on Sunday, 28 September, with the Brisbane Broncos’ men’s and women’s sides both in contention for NRL Grand Final spots. The women’s match kicks off at 1:15 p.m., followed by the men at 4:05 p.m. on the big screens at the same locations.

For fans without tickets to the matches at Suncorp Stadium, the precinct provides a free and open-air setting to watch the action unfold, with Felons Brewing Co supplying game-day food and drinks.

Community atmosphere along the river

Howard Smith Wharves management noted that the precinct has become a gathering place for Brisbane residents during major sporting events, with walk-ins welcome at the outdoor seating areas. Plans Lodged to Expand 1930s Hamilton Mansion

A 1930s residence on Crescent Road in Hamilton, long admired for its traditional charm, is the subject of plans to extend and enhance its living spaces while preserving its architectural integrity.

The home sits within Brisbane’s CR1 Character Precinct zone under the City Plan 2014, an area designed to protect and enhance residential character and, in particular, retain houses built in 1946 or earlier.

Planning documents showed the proposed development has been designed to respect these requirements, with extensions kept subordinate in scale and detailed to match the existing heritage character.

The plans include new recreational and guest spaces on the ground floor, an expanded outdoor deck area, and additional carport capacity. Materials such as terracotta roof tiles, stone cladding and arched windows will be used to ensure the additions remain consistent with the home’s original style.

“The proposal will incorporate a built form, scale, detailing and materials consistent with a pre-1947 Dwelling house and complement the traditional building character of the streetscape. The frontage of the Dwelling is to be generally retained, with the proposal continuing to utilise lightweight materials and finishes,” planners wrote.

“The proposed extensions are limited to a new carport, gym, guest suite, pool deck and semi enclosed outdoor living and dining area at the rear of the existing Dwelling house.”

Planners noted that the intent was to deliver modest extensions that improve the liveability of the house while maintaining its established form and relationship with the streetscape.

The 1930s Crescent Road property, purchased last year by a renowned plastic surgeon for $6.7 million, has been described as a landmark example of Hamilton’s traditional residential character.

Property records showed its value has climbed significantly over time, with the house selling for $480,000 in 1988, rising to $4.2 million in 2021 before reaching its most recent price.

Eat Street Northshore Gears Up for Father’s Day with Food, Music, and Major Prizes

A luxury island getaway and a deep-sea fishing charter are just two of the incredible prizes on offer at Hamilton’s Eat Street Northshore, which is hosting an all-out Father’s Day celebration designed to give one local dad the thrill of a lifetime.

The special “Grill, Thrill & Chill” event is set to take place this Sunday, Sept. 7, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the popular MacArthur Avenue venue. Entry is priced at $6 for adults, while children under 13 can attend for free. Organisers have also confirmed that free parking will be available for all guests.

More Than a Meal

The event promises a full evening dedicated to celebrating dads, encouraging families to spend quality time together. Guests can explore laneways filled with gourmet food stalls, including slow-cooked beef from Moonshine Smokehouse, pork sausage lollipops from Poulet & Porc, and freshly shucked oysters from Shuck All Oysters.

To complement the food, five different bars will be operating throughout the venue, serving a variety of beverages.

Prizes Dad Will Actually Want

Consultation Opens on Northshore Hamilton Housing Plan

Public consultation has opened on proposed amendments to the Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area Development Scheme, aiming to unlock land for up to 10,000 new homes.

Background and Context

The Northshore Hamilton Priority Development Area (PDA), declared in 2008, is Queensland’s largest waterfront urban renewal project. It covers 304 hectares along more than three kilometres of the Brisbane River, close to the Brisbane Airport and the Australian Trade Coast precinct.

The precinct was previously planned to host an athletes’ village for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games, announced in 2022. Following a review of Games infrastructure, the athletes’ village proposal was relocated to the RNA Showgrounds, with the Northshore Hamilton site now intended for permanent housing development.

Proposed Development Scheme Changes

The revised Development Scheme seeks to improve clarity, remove outdated requirements, and reflect updated community, industry, and government priorities. Key proposed amendments include:

Removing requirements for 10% of units to have three or more bedrooms.
Removing requirements for 5% social, public, or affordable housing.
Relaxing building form controls, including the 30-metre wall length and 10-metre articulation limits.
Amending sustainability requirements to allow more flexible design approaches.
Relocating the planned school to the south-east corner of the community hub near Theodore Street and Macarthur Avenue, outside fuel storage hazard zones.
Removing all references to the former athletes’ village.

These changes aim to reduce regulatory barriers, speed up housing delivery, and support greater flexibility in meeting market demand.

Consultation Process

The proposed amendments are open for public consultation from 7 August to 19 September 2025. Economic Development Queensland is inviting feedback from residents, local businesses, developers, and other stakeholders.

Three public drop-in sessions will be held at The Shed, Dock C, 257 MacArthur Avenue, Hamilton:

Wider Housing Targets

The Northshore Hamilton changes form part of a broader plan to deliver 26,000 new homes across two PDAs, with Woolloongabba targeted for 16,000 dwellings. The revisions are intended to bring forward a decade’s worth of housing land supply in Northshore Hamilton alone.

Next Steps

Feedback received during the consultation period will be considered before finalising the Development Scheme. A submissions report summarising feedback will be published once the scheme is adopted.

“Rocketman” Tribute Show Lands in Hamilton

Internationally acclaimed tribute artist Greg Andrew is set to bring his “Rocketman: The Elton John Experience” show to the popular Eat Street Northshore food and entertainment precinct in Hamilton for a special one-night-only performance.

The event will take place this Friday, the 18 July, with the performance scheduled to begin at 7:30 pm. A $6 entry fee will grant attendees full access to the show and the wider venue.

A World-Class Performer Comes to Brisbane

The show features Greg Andrew, who is regarded as one of the world’s leading Elton John tribute artists. With a performance history spanning over 30 countries and audiences totalling more than 500,000 people, Andrew will bring his celebrated act to the riverside precinct for an evening under the stars.

The performance is described as a high-energy tribute, featuring one man, one piano, and the spectacular sequinned costumes the original showman is famous for. Attendees can expect to hear many iconic hits, including “Your Song”, “Rocket Man”, and “I’m Still Standing”.

Construction Begins on New Rockpool Aged Care Facility in Northshore Hamilton

A new $60 million aged care development has officially begun construction in Northshore Hamilton, with Rockpool Residential Aged Care marking the start of the project with a ceremonial sod-turning at Macarthur Avenue.

The upcoming facility, which is expected to open by early 2026, will be Rockpool’s fifth aged care home in Queensland, joining existing locations in Morayfield, Carseldine, Pelican Waters and Oxley.

The planned development is a six-storey residential aged care facility with 153 beds and 44 sleeved car parks at ground level. The ground floor will feature a combination of administrative offices, staff facilities, shared amenities, and some residential units. The upper floors will mainly house resident accommodation and communal areas.

The Northshore site aims to set a new standard in aged care, with the provider promising a thoughtfully designed environment focused on comfort, hospitality and strong community ties. Rockpool says the new home will support residents to “live their best lives, every day,” with spaces that feel more like home than a traditional care facility.

Construction is being led by McNab, a Queensland-based builder that has partnered with Rockpool on previous projects.

Previously, Northshore Brisbane expressed enthusiasm about welcoming Rockpool Residential Aged Care to the precinct, highlighting it as a valuable addition to their expanding community.

New Pool Plan Gets Green Light at Hamilton Luxury Home

A luxury property owner in Hamilton has gained approval to expand a swimming pool and outdoor area at a high-value home on Prospect Terrace.

Background of the Proposal

The owner of the residence at 7 Prospect Terrace, Hamilton, lodged an application with BCC on 17 June 2025. The request sought permission to rebuild the swimming pool and outdoor entertainment area at the property, which was purchased in September 2024 for $12.3 million. The residence, designed by Joe Adsett and built by Graya, sits on a steep site overlooking the Brisbane skyline.

Approval and Assessment

BCC approved the application on 3 July 2025. The application was assessed at code level and handled by an officer from council. The approved works include building activities involving amenity, aesthetics, and a dwelling house extension. The pool and terrace are to be positioned 5.25 metres above natural ground level. The project involves the expertise of Property Projects Australia Pty Ltd as consultant, with the application lodged in the name of Louis Zenonos.

Previous Related Development Issues in Hamilton

The approval follows earlier controversy in the same area. In 2023, a neighbouring property at 25 Grays Road, also constructed by Graya, was subject to an enforcement notice regarding large retaining walls supporting an infinity pool. That dispute was resolved after the property owners agreed to reduce the size of the retaining structure.

Consideration of Neighbouring Properties

Submissions in support of the recent application noted that several neighbouring properties on Prospect Terrace, Grays Road, Eldernell Terrace, and Mullens Street have pools and visible retaining walls. The application documents indicated these were factors considered in the proposal for 7 Prospect Terrace.

What’s Next

With BCC approval granted, the redevelopment at the Hamilton property is set to proceed. No appeal has been lodged in relation to the approval.
