The prestigious Royal Queensland Golf Club at Hamilton has secured a lucrative, multimillion-dollar agreement with the renowned Canadian circus troupe, Cirque Du Soleil.
The partnership will transform the club’s grounds into a vibrant spectacle as Cirque Du Soleil stages its Brisbane shows for the next eight years.
Club general manager Sean Dobson informed members this week that the deal, resulting from a year of negotiations, will bring the club millions of dollars over the contract’s duration.
This significant influx of funds will be used to construct a new short course and make other capital improvements.
It is set to invest close to a million dollars into the currently undeveloped eastern section of the course in preparation for its 2024 Luzia show and subsequent performances in 2026, 2028, and 2030. Dobson emphasised that this investment will open doors for future income generation from similar events.
Furthermore, this will contribute to crucial infrastructure in the eastern section of the course, including water, sewage, and power. These upgrades will also benefit the short course and its associated facilities. Golf course designer Ashley Mead highlighted the site’s potential, praising the picturesque setting with its beloved fig trees and the Brisbane River as a backdrop.
Luzia will captivate audiences this year with 56 shows scheduled between 25 September and 10 November.
